5 000 SMS-answers in 12 days
The Norwegian newspaper Adresseavisen got a revenue of 15 000 Norwegian crowns by doing a World championship-crossword at the Ski WC in Olso. The result has really gotten the newspaper to realize the opportunities that TULO creates. Now they´re making new services.
- The WC-crossword was done as at test but gav an extraordinary result. Way over our expectations, says Nina Hedel, product manager for mobile services at Polaris Media.
During the Ski WC, 23 February – 6 Mars 2011, a total of 5 000 SMS-answers were sent to the newspaper at the cost of 3 NOK per SMS. That gives a revenue of 15 000 NOK.
- We realize that we could have set a higher price, probably five crowns instead of three. But that is the sort of lesson we have to learn in the beginning, says Nina.
The first prize was an iPad.
- Of course the prizes have a part in the success. But this is definitely a service we are going to use a lot in the future. It is easy to set up, demands little administration and resources. A new service that we also like is Easter images.
Our readers sent a MMS with their favorite Easter picture at the cost of ten crowns and a chance at winning a camera (worth 10 000 NOK).
- We got approximately 100 pictures, 20 were published at adresseavisen.no and in the paper and so the readers got to vote at their favorite. They payment was 3 NOK per SMS and we got almost 600 votes.
But they also got revenue from advertisers.
- We used the possibility of an advertisement in the obligatory reply SMS that we took payment for, one crown each. This is definitely something we have to do more and develop further.
- By having advertisers on these services we get revenue from several sources at the same time as we improve the interaction and relationship with our customers, readers as well as advertisers, says Nina.
