CUSTOMER CLUBS CREATES NEW REVENUE FOR ÖSTERSUNDS-TIDNINGAR

The customer club KÄRNAN gives the newspaper, Östersunds-Tidningar, a revenue of 70 000 SEK this year. The newspaper takes a subscription fee of 1 000 SEK a month and 1 SEK per SMS that is sent. Now they are working on starting more customer clubs in Östersund.

Kärnan is a shopping center with 20 boutiques in central Östersund. The boutiques are cooperating in the customer club and have been working with it for almost a year.

- The customer club is joint for all boutiques and we work together for getting new members, for example through competitions, says Håkan Hamrin, business developer in digital media at Östersunds-Tidningar.

During 2010 Kärnan only used the customer clubs a few times and without greater success.

- We realised that they neede support to get started and so we went around and talked to a few strategic boutiques. A few boutiques are now working actively with collecting members and have a good frequency in their SMS-offers, says Håkan.

The results have been much more prosperous after Östersunds-Tidningar visited the boutiques in person. And more and more boutiques are using the services. The SMS are bringing people to the boutique that has sent the SMS as well as surrounding boutiques.

Östersunds-Tidningar takes a subscription fee of 1 000 SEK a month for the customer club and then the boutique pays 1 SEK per SMS they send to their members.

- If it continues like this are revenue will be 70 000 SEK for Kärnans customer club this year. Now that we have seen the possibilities we want to sell more clubs, says Håkan.
