Double up on expectations – SMS-payment for e-newspaper

When Vestmanlands Läns Tidning decided on an e-newspaper they wanted to reach out with an existing product in a new channel.

- We also had some demand from our customers, says Rebecka Sjödin Hansson, manager of Private Market at VLT, Vestmanlands Läns Tidning.

VLT offers single issues but also subscriptions of the e-newspaper.

- The single issues are handled and paid through TULO. The subscribers of the e-newspaper get an ordinary bill. These subscribers get the same benefits as the subscribers of the paper issue.

Rebecka says that the start up process was fast and neat.

- Since the service already existed at several newspapers it was just a question of implementing the service and get started. We only needed to do the design, place it on the site and put up flows and that sort of things.

The expectations on the service were modest.

-We thought we might sell five single issues of the e-newspaper a day. Today we have reached nine. And we have approximately 70 subscribers. The revenue of subscriptions is 50 000 SEK and for the single issues 27 000 before taxes and operators fees so far this year. This service definitely serves a purpose although it´s not a big channel. Yet..."
