SMS-competition created a revenue of 260 000 NOK

This summer the Norwegian newspaper Alta Posten launched a competition to win a kitchen renovation. The SMS-competition called ”Puss Opp” was a great success and they´re planning to present the concept for all of the newspapers in the Polaris Media Group during fall.

The prize in the competition ”Puss Opp” was a kitchen renovation. 17 entered the competition by sending in pictures of their kitchens and collecting stamps from the competitions’ four sponsors. The competition was carried out 23 of may until 11 of june.

- The intention was to create interest and participation amongst our readers. And Alta Posten really succeeded, says Nina Hedel, product manager of mobile services at Polaris Media.

Alta Posten marketed the competition through the newspaper, radio and TV.

- We had four sponsors that pay 40 000 NOK each to be in the activity. That generated a revenue of 160 000, which is absolutely fabulous.

But the big surprise was the response from the readers.

- More than 22 000 SMS-votes and a revenue of 100 000 NOK.

Alta Posten had much less expectations and is really happy about the results.

- We are now presenting the activity for the other newspapers in the Polaris Media Group. And we are working with new concepts that is possible to do multiple times a year, for example ”Pimp my apartment”.

- We see a huge potential in these kinds of activities and competitions and they can really help to boost the income for all our newspapers, says Nina.
