The newspaper Vaasabladet wanted to increase the SMS-volume on their competitions in order to try to get more income per active service. A quiz that generated eight SMS per competitor and a revenue of 5 000 was the first result.

Small SMS-services can be a simple and fast source of income.  If you succeed to make every service a bit more profitable the administration will be even easier and more money will follow.

– We came up with a quiz to increase the SMS-volume. The quiz resulted in eight SMS per competitor, says Patrik Pada, head of business development and digital media at HSS Media-Bolagen.

Sixteen two-day tickets for “Vaasa Rockfestival” were at stake. The quiz started with the competitor sending a SMS with the word rock to register his participation. The competitor received a letter and question. For every correct answer the competitor received a new letter and a new question.

– When the competitors has gotten every letters in the word “rock” they SMS the words “rock bingo” and they are automatically a part of the raffle to get the tickets, says Patrik.

The cost of every SMS was 95 cent (around 9 SEK). And considering the number of participants and SMS the result was a pretty sum of money.

– We came up with the idea a bit late and only had time for one ad about the quiz in the newspaper. So therefore we are really happy with the outcome - 60 competitors and 490 SMS. We are definitely going to continue with quiz like this in the future.
