SMS-voting gave the bandyteam Villa Lidköping a new theme song
When Villa Lidköping needed a new theme song, the newspaper Nya Lidköpings-Tidningen, came with the suggestion to do a competition on their website and use SMS-voting in order to quick and easy find a winning song.
Bandy supporters and artists sent in songs and ten contributing songs were chosen.
- The readers then SMS-voted on their favorite song, says Patrick Limé, head of digital media at Nya Lidköpings-Tidningen.
After three weeks the competition ended and the bandy team got their new song.
- We announced the winning song on our website and in the paper. And the new theme song is going to be played at home games in the future.
The interest for bandy is huge in Lidköping. When the competition was announced at nlt.se the number of visitors at the site gained with 3 000 readers. There was a total of 1 276 votes.
- That alone is positive for the newspaper. And besides that we got revenue from SMS-votes, 10 SEK for each SMS. And from the advertiser McDonalds who sponsored the campaign with 8 000 SEK. McDonalds got visibility in print, banners and reply SMS, says Patrick.
Are you pleased with the service?
- Yes, very. But with the benefit of hindsight we realize that we could have taken more payment from the advertiser. They pay a total for the whole concept no matter how many votes and SMS we sent out. They got a lot of visibility for their money.
