The strength of the mobile channel

Vestmanlands Läns Tidning (VLT) has recently carried out this year´s edition of Västerås vardagshjäte - the everyday hero of Västerås.

Reports have been made about heroic acts of local people, and the public has voted for the everyday hero in Västerås. After the voting VLT found that SMS as a communication channel in this purpose has taken over. VLT received up to 5 433 votes in total, and 5 260 of them were SMS-votes (compared to last year’s 87 SMS-votes)!

One explanation may be that SMS-voting was free of charge. On the other hand, the mobile platform offers more efficient administration of the votes, which in itself is a gain, says Lennart Mattisson, head of development at Promedia.

Mattisson means that overall this is further evidence of the growing importance of the mobile channel. And evidently it is also used by people of almost all ages. This opens up for new possibilities and income generating services, in addition to the cost reducing activity as in this case.
